Frequently Asked Questions

Basic Information:

How does an alarm system fend off would-be burglars?

Approximately 90% of burglars prefer to break into homes without security systems. These criminals want the easy way in; they don't want to risk an alarm siren going off and the police being dispatched. The Advanced Alarm lawn signs and window stickers will help alert burglars to the fact that you have an alarm.

Can installing a home security system save me money?

Yes. Not only will a home security system add value to your home, but it will also save you 10 to 20 percent on your homeowner's insurance under most policies. Please check with your insurance provider for more information.

What’s the difference between a wireless security system and a hardwire security system?

Wireless systems allow for easier installation in multi-story homes or when there is no attic or basement accessibility in single-story homes to run the wiring. There is no difference in the operation of a wireless system than a traditional hardwire system.

How long will the batteries last in my wireless security system?

The batteries will last 5 to 7 years before they will need to be replaced. Your system will alert you when the battery is low in one of your components. Best of all you can purchase your batteries from us or any convenience store that carries standard batteries.

System Information:

What are the components of a home security system?

Most alarm systems include a control panel & keypad, door and/or window contacts, a motion detector, and an alarm siren. Advanced Alarm also offers other security devices such as remote control access, pet-immune motion detectors, glass break detection, and monitored smoke and CO2 detection.

How long will it take to have my security system installed?

In most cases it will take 1 to 2 days to install your alarm system. The features that you have installed will affect your installation time. Wireless security systems will take less time to install than a wired system. Our technicians are properly trained and work Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 4:30PM.

Is a telephone line necessary?

No. With today's technology, you can now use a Honeywell Radio to communicate all your security needs to our UT certified central station. Magic Jack will not work with our Honeywell security systems.

No phone line…No problem

Advanced Alarm can monitor your home alarm system with our optional GSM communicator if you do not have a phone line. You can also install a this GSM cellular back up system for added protection in the event of a telephone service interruption or a cable cut.

How the system works:

Will the security system work if there is a loss of power?

Yes. Our systems come with a back-up battery that will run the system for up to 30 hours depending on the system and age of the batteries. Once the battery is low, a signal will be transmitted to our monitoring center and you will be notified about it. Your control panel will also alert you that the power is off or interrupted to your alarm system.

Are pets a problem for an alarm system?

No. Advanced Alarm security systems can use pet immunity, which allows for most animals that weighs less than 80 pounds to move around your home without setting off the alarm.
